The South Coast community is mourning the profound loss of Tommy Fowler, who passed away peacefully on Monday morning. A Warilla junior who rose to become a cornerstone of the club’s premiership-winning senior sides, Tommy was more than just a footballer—he was a local firefighter, a dedicated clubman, and a “true-blue” larrikin who made the world a better place.
Known for his toughness on the paddock and his infectious wit off it, Tommy embodied the spirit of the Warilla Gorillas and the wider South Coast region.
A Legacy on the Paddock
Tommy’s journey was woven into the fabric of the Warilla Gorillas. From his early days in the juniors to hoisting 1st Grade premiership flags, he was a player of immense grit and skill. His talent earned him representative honours with Group 7, the Southern Division, and NSW Country Rugby League.
The ultimate tribute to his career came in 2006, when he was named in the South Coast Group 7 Team of the Last 50 Years. This prestigious selection placed him among the immortals of the game, including Michael Cronin, Rod Wishart, Bruce Maguire, Ron Costello, Gus Miller, and Ian Jones.
As the club and its fans look toward the future, Tommy’s standard of excellence remains the benchmark for the region. Those following the next generation of talent can find the latest updates in our Group 7 Rugby League 2026 draw, ladder, and results guide.
A Hero in the Community
Beyond the footy field, Tommy served the community as a local firefighter, protecting the region with the same bravery he showed during a hard-fought match. Whether he was rowing boats for the Warilla Barrack Point Surf Club or sharing a laugh and a yarn at the clubhouse, his presence was a constant source of positivity.
He was a “larrikin” in the truest sense—someone whose humour and personality could light up any room and whose loss leaves a massive hole in the hearts of those who knew him.
Final Farewell
The Warilla Gorillas and the South Coast community extend their deepest condolences to his wife Robin, his children, and the entire Fowler family.
Tommy Fowler was a legend of the game, a hero in uniform, and an even better mate. He will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral details will be shared by the club once they are finalised.
Rest in Peace, Tommy.
