How both teams got here

Gunnedah earned the right to host by beating Moree 22–20 in the major semi-final — a two-point win over the side that had finished above them. Under the Page–McIntyre system that result sent the Bulldogs straight to the decider and gave Moree the second chance.

Moree used it. They accounted for Dungowan Cowboys 34–20 in the preliminary final to set up the rematch, and now walk into a fourth consecutive grand final. The Boars have won the last two, both played at home.

What is at stake

For Gunnedah the number that matters is 31 — the years since Kitchener Park last staged a grand final. The Bulldogs have reached the deciders of 2014, 2018 and 2025 and lost all three, every one of them away from home. Their last premiership came in 1998.

For Moree it is a chance at three in a row, and a chance to do it somewhere other than their own ground. Beating the same opponent twice in a finals series is hard; Gunnedah have already shown they can win the close one.
