Tyrell Sloan Says He Is “Definitely Coming” to Castleford, Ending Talk of an NRL Stay
Tyrell Sloan has confirmed he will join Castleford Tigers in Super League for 2027. “I’m definitely coming,” he said in an interview with the club, reported by All Out Rugby League on Saturday.
It ends weeks of reports in Australia suggesting the St George Illawarra fullback might find a way to stay in the NRL.
What Sloan said
“I have signed for the next two years, and I’m looking forward to getting over there and playing some good footy,” he said. “I can’t wait to get over there and really rip in, and earn the respect from the coaching staff and the boys. I know what I can bring to the table, so for myself it’s coming over with a happy mindset.”
On the speculation, he was blunt. “Honestly mate, I don’t pay too much attention to it,” he said. “I’m in the off-season at the moment, so I’ve just been cruising and keeping my training up. It’s outside noise, I don’t see too much of it because I’ve been enjoying my time off.”
Castleford teased the announcement on social media with the caption “Don’t believe the ‘truth'”, Serious About Rugby League reported.
Why there was doubt
Sloan had said he would have liked to stay at the Dragons, who chose not to extend his contract beyond 2026. Ryan Carr, the former Dragons assistant who helped bring Sloan, Damien Cook and Mat Feagai to Castleford, has since left as head coach, and Paul Rowley has taken over, All Out Rugby League reported. Parramatta were the latest club linked with Sloan.
Castleford had insisted privately that they would demand a large transfer fee if he tried to break the deal, Love Rugby League reported.
What Castleford are getting
Sloan is 24. He has played 97 games for the Dragons since his debut in 2021 and scored 59 tries. He arrives with Cook and Feagai at a club that has not reached the play-offs since 2019.
He expects to be in England next month. “We’re not over until mid-November, so we’ve still got a bit of time to get settled in,” he said.
The rest of the market
Sloan’s move was agreed months ago. On 1 November, NRL players entering the last year of their contracts become free to talk to other clubs. Kangaroos Liam Martin at Penrith and Jack Bostock at the Dolphins are among them.
