Jillaroos players in gold jerseys lift the Women's Rugby League World Cup trophy in front of a crowd

Jaime Chapman Scored Six Tries as the Jillaroos Beat Wales 124-6, the Highest Score in International Rugby League

The Jillaroos beat Wales 124-6 at CommBank Stadium on Sunday, the highest score ever recorded in an international rugby league match. Winger Jaime Chapman scored six of their 21 tries and Jesse Southwell kicked 20 goals, BBC Sport reported.

Chapman’s sixth try came in the last minute and took Australia past the old record, Denmark’s 122-8 win over Sweden in 2012.

60-0 at half-time

Wales started well and held the ball for the opening sets. Olivia Kernick scored first in the sixth minute after an offload from Makenzie Weale, and Chapman had two tries by the 10th minute, rlwc2026.com reported.

The half-time score of 60-0 was the biggest in any World Cup match, men’s or women’s, according to the BBC. Australia had 84% of possession in the first half and completed 21 of 22 sets.

Team Tries Goals Points
Australia: Chapman 6, Sergis 4, Church 2, Joseph 2, Upton 2, Kernick, Southwell, Apps, Paki, Nizza 21 20 (Southwell) 124
Wales: Travis 1 1 (Preston) 6

The records

The 124 points beat the women’s World Cup record, Australia’s own 92-0 win over France in 2022, and the men’s World Cup record of 110-4 by the Kangaroos against Russia in 2000, the Guardian reported. Chapman scored three tries on debut in that 2022 game against France.

The 118-point margin is the largest in any women’s international. France’s men still hold the overall record, a 120-0 win over Serbia in 2003, and Wales’s only try is the reason the Jillaroos did not match it.

Wales’s moment

Wales were 100-0 down when Paige Travis picked up a kick from Bulldogs halfback Tayla Preston and scored. It was the first try anyone had scored against the Jillaroos at this World Cup, and the Welsh celebrated wildly, the BBC reported.

This is Wales’s first World Cup. It was only their 16th Test, and their first against Australia, after a first international in 2021. Tom Brindle’s side had already lost 70-6 to England and 76-0 to Samoa. Their captain Bethan Dainton made 77 tackles in the first two rounds, the most of any player.

Fiji next

Jess Skinner’s side are chasing a fourth straight title. They play Fiji in the semi-final at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Sunday 8 November, the same day the Kangaroos play Samoa there. Southwell played her first game of the tournament, and Jessica Sergis, who scored four, came in at centre after Julia Robinson’s tournament-ending injury, the ABC reported.

Australia had already beaten England and Samoa in the group. In the other semi-final the Kiwi Ferns play Samoa in Newcastle on Saturday. UK kick-off times for both are on our World Cup UK times page.
